Bachata Dominicana Copenhagen

At Bachata Dominicana Copenhagen, we bring the spirit of the Dominican Republic and beyond to the social dance floor. We teach authentic partner dancing styles like Bachata, Merengue, and Konpa—sharing not just the steps, but the history, culture, and soul behind them.

We’re a growing, diverse community, creating a brave and inclusive space where you can explore, make mistakes, and find your own style.

The authentic Caribbean dance experience in Copenhagen

Our biggest goal is for our student to get so comfortable with the dance that they can dance with locals.- ‘Bachata, rooted in the Dominican Republic — social, musical, and expressive. Taught with care for its culture, history, and feeling.’

Bachata Dominicana Copenhagen (BDC) is a space dedicated to sharing the roots and essence of traditional bachata dominicana in Copenhagen. We focus on the social dance as it lives and breathes in the Dominican Republic—musical, playful, and deeply expressive—while honoring the culture and stories it comes from. Our offerings have grown to include dance styles from other countries, but our commitment to honoring the cultural roots behind each dance remains the same.

We offer weekly classes, a monthly social night on the last Friday of each month, and workshops and special events throughout the year. We regularly welcome visiting instructors from the Dominican Republic and other parts of the world and host community gatherings, including shared meals prepared by our amazing volunteers.

What makes us different
Traditional Bachata
We focus on bachata as a social dance, rooted in the Dominican Republic. Music and connection come before patterns and performance. We honor the culture, history, and feeling behind every step. Our space is welcoming, curious, and open to learning through experience.
Open to everyone
All Levels, All Backgrounds
You are welcome here, no matter your dance experience. We are a community shaped by many cultures and perspectives. There is space to try, learn, and grow at your own pace.

Respect, openness, and kindness guide how we meet each other.

What our dancers say

Meet the team

Mette
Lead Instructor & Organiser

Mette

The driving force behind Bachata Dominicana Copenhagen, she holds many roles—teacher, administrative, organizer, and everything in between—bringing the community to life with care, dedication, and a clear vision, supported by an amazing team around her.
Her dance journey began in 2004 and evolved through years of teaching, choreographing, and later immersing herself in partner dancing. Since 2016, she has trained in Cuba and spent many months in the Dominican Republic, connecting deeply with local dance communities. In 2022, she completed an instructor certification with Bachata Dominicana RD, alongside studies in relational leadership and facilitation. Her teaching centers on social dancing, musicality, and cultural understanding, creating a space where people feel seen, comfortable, and free to connect.
